Hey hi hello!

My name is Daisy, Im 25 and currently live in Tokyo, Japan.

I grew up on the Gold Coast, Australia in a big family of people who love to cook, eat, travel and create. I taught myself to sew on my grandmother’s old machine when I was a teenager crafting up outfits made with remnants from my fab fashion designer aunt. I was encouraged to continue sewing in art at high school and submitted photography look books for assignments featuring DIY creations worn by my friends.

Once I graduated from university I did a brief stint in Melbourne but decided it wasn’t for me. Upon my mum’s suggestion, I moved to live with my aunt in Auckland, New Zealand which is where DIY DAISY was born! Originally, I only planned to stay for a few months. I was just going to learn the ins and outs of running a small fashion business and put my marketing studies to use but I fell in love with Auckland and decided to stay. My aunt taught me all about clothing production and introduced me to some amazing local designers. I finally got back behind a sewing machine for real and even designed a couple of my own patterns.

I eventually got a dream job (my first degree related job) at a fabric store in the head office. I was surrounded by beautiful fabric and creative people which really pushed me to start sewing for real (using patterns hehe). It was also here that I was first introduced to the online sewing community! So, I created DIY Daisy to get involved and get to know other sewists around the world. I loved that job and learned SO MUCH but came across a once in a lifetime opportunity to teach English in Japan, something I have always dreamed of doing.Β  I applied to the programme and six months later was accepted. So, with lots of tears, I said goodbye to Auckland and moved to Tokyo.
