During my gingham phase, I made a whole bunch of things including this dress! It was one of my earlier self drafts and pattern hacks that I’m really proud of because it became and still is one of my go-to pieces. The fabric is just a simple black and white cotton gingham I got at a fabric wholesaler in Auckland and I really went through it!
To make this dress I used 100 Acts Of Sewing: Dress No. 1 as a base. I lengthened the dress and added a raw edge ruffle at about the waist and hem. I think I had just learned how to do facings so Instead of finishing the armholes and neck with bias binding I cut the top part of the dress off and made a pair of straps. I’ve been meaning to make a black version of this dress because I think it would be a really great summer dress with lots of layering potential!
My sister snapped these pics recently on a rainy day walk to the supermarket. It was the perfect excuse to wear all my gingham accessories!
